Samsung, Axiom launch Galaxy Pro in UAE
Device features full Qwerty keyboard, 2.8-inch touchscreen, RRP is AED999
Samsung, in association with Axiom Telecom is launching the Samsung Galaxy Pro in the UAE in April.
The new device features a full Qwerty keyboard as well as a 2.8-inch touch screen and is based on the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.
With a recommended retail price of AED999, the phone is aimed at the mid-range business customer and has free to use ThinkFree Office application that allows users to access modify and create documents in Microsoft Office on the device and is compatible with the latest version of Microsoft Office.
The Galaxy Pro comes with already installed web-security, designed to protect both business and home users as soon as they go online.
"Most people are scared to use internet and professional applications on the phone because it is easy to be had. Now, with this option all your information, business or personal, is definitely secure on the phone," said George Kafrouni - product and training manager at Samsung
The Galaxy Pro is designed to allow two-way synchronisation of mobile phonebooks and address books from major email services such as MSN, Yahoo! and Gmail.
The integrated calendar means users can synchronise all events and appointments from PC and mobile calendars as well as social networking sites.
"If I access my Exchange server, I can choose all my contacts there to have on my Galaxy Pro contacts, all the contacts that I have in my Gmail can also be downloaded to my phone book, so I am able to call these people, message them and interact with them. If you sign into your Facebook engine inside the phone, all your Facebook contacts will be downloaded to your phone. You can choose this to happen. You can do this from any social network, MySpace, Twitter, and you can see different information about each contact, this creates something called the social hub, the ultimate inbox," said Kafrouni.
Users can also view histories of all messages, emails and phone calls for each contact in the address book by clicking on any name in the address book and viewing interactions.
Users can view social networking updates from contacts in the address book, from any social networking site the contact is connected to. Users can also view photographs available for that contact on social networking sites.
The phone features integrated push technology, meaning users will not have to pay a fee to have their mail pushed to the Galaxy Pro's inbox.
"The operator here will charge you for the push technology, but the push technology is already on the phone, so every time an email comes in, it will be pushed directly to the inbox, you don't have to connect to any other server, just put in your username and password," said Kafrouni.
The Android market place has around 250,000 applications including many business and entertainment applications, the phone also has access to the Samsung Apps marketplace, which also has games and business applications for the Samsung phone available for download.
The phone also features remote access, so if a user loses the Samsung Galaxy Pro, they can find it using GPS tracking. Users can also remotely delete the information on the phone and change the status from silent to loud and locate it on a map.
The Galaxy Pro also features Google Latitude geo-location device, where users can sign in and share where they are, as well as Google Places, which gives users recommended places near your area such as coffee shops and restaurants.
The phone comes with a 2GB memory card, the device memory is 512 MB internal.
