Zain Jordan launches HSPA+ service
Our target is to reach 500,000 users of the HSPA+ technology in Jordan by the end of 2012 , says Dr Abdul Malek Al Jaber, CEO of Zain Jordan.

Zain Jordan, a subsidiary of Kuwait's Zain Group, has launched high speed broadband services using HSPA+ technology.

The new service is being launched across all the governorates of Jordan, providing 97% coverage of the country's populated area, enabling services such as mobile TV, video-on-demand (VoD), and video calling.

Dr AbdulMalek Al Jaber, CEO of Zain Jordan, said: "Zain is executing its strategy with a focus on investing in innovative applications and content development through mobile phones in a way that matches the needs of the local community and is in line with its culture, thus helping enhance knowledge and build communication."

Jaber also said that offering advanced internet services would contribute to building and strengthening Jordan's infrastructure and could also help attract investors into the country.

With an initial speed of 21 Mbps, the HSPA+ technology will eventually be able to provide internet data services of up to 42 Mbps.

"Our target is to reach 500,000 users of the HSPA+ technology by the end of 2012. As the services cover remote areas in Jordan that were not provided with internet services, we expect the internet penetration in the country to increase eventually with the provision of the service," Jaber was quoted as saying in The Jordan Times, a local newspaper.

Earlier, in December, Jaber told CommsMEA that the operator was preparing to launch the nationwide mobile broadband services in Jordan during February 2011.
