Jumbo opens new store in Abu Dhabi
Store opening part of plans to expand retail presence across region
Jumbo Electronics has officially opened its new store in Abu Dhabi's Marina Mall.
The store opening is part of a regional expansion plan, with the retailer adding to its network of stores across the UAE and Oman, to expand into Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
The company also plans to open another outlet in Abu Dhabi this year, to add to five existing stores in the UAE capital.
Deepak Khetrapal, CEO, Jumbo Electronics commented: "Abu Dhabi is a key focus market for us. We currently have six stores in the Capital, including this new outlet in Marina Mall, and will be opening an additional Abu Dhabi store later this year.
"As the Emirate has grown, we have seen an increasing number of visitors in our stores and therefore have plans for expanding our network to meet that demand. Our growth is a result of our commitment to offering the best-in-class value proposition for discerning customers and market-leading customer-service, backed by accessible and popular locations - such as the Marina Mall. We are delighted that Sony are here with us for the opening since they have been our key partner since the inception of Jumbo."
Jumbo is also planning to expand its brand into non-retail segments, including IT solutions and distribution, as well as expand into consumer appliances under its Supra brand. Non-retail segments currently account for three quarters of Jumbo's overall business.
The store was opened by Kiyoshi Shikano, senior vice president, Global Sales & Marketing Head of Sony Corporation. Jumbo has been the exclusive Sony distributor for the UAE for almost 40 years.
Shikano said: "We share a great relationship with Jumbo, which has been our exclusive distributor in the UAE for nearly 40 years. We are pleased to be a part of the opening of the Marina Mall store. Abu Dhabi is a fast growing market and the expansion plans Jumbo has in place in the capital will give us more platforms to showcase and launch an amazing array of products we have lined up for this year."
The retailer also reported that it saw a 25% growth in sales during the Dubai Shopping Festival, which ran in January and February.
