Sony adds to Xperia line
Launches Xperia pro and Xperia neo at Mobile World Congress
Sony Ericsson unveiled the newest additions to the Xperia smartphone range, the Xperia neo and Xperia pro at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The two new phones run on the latest Android platform, Gingerbread, and are the latest phones to be launched in the Middle East.
"These new Xperia handsets are the cutting edge of our mobile technology, making them ideal for the Middle East region where there is a burgeoning interest in getting online using a phone. The possibilities are out there to be discovered, and with nearly three in five people in the region using the internet at least once a day, and with email and music being the main online activities, then the new Xperia models are the gateway for many to experience the next level of online interaction with their mobiles," said Ruediger Odenbach, general manager, Sony Ericsson Middle East.
The Xperia pro combines a slide-out ergonomic keyboard with smart functions, designed to create a faster messaging experience.
Xperia pro introduces the Type & Send function, designed to eliminate the need to open a dedicated app for each type of message, and a Smart Keyboard designed to automatically trigger predictive messaging actions when a user slides out the keyboard.
Xperia pro is aimed at the business market with functions such as secure email, calendar and contact sync and pre-loaded Office Suite Pro. The Xperia pro will be available in black, red and silver.
"We want to be a leader in Android and with Xperia neo and Xperia pro, we are now offering excellent, innovative Android choices for consumers. These latest devices combine stunning design with state-of-the-art Sony technology and a new faster messaging experience on the Xperia pro, creating an entertaining smartphone experience," said Steve Walker, head of marketing, Sony Ericsson.
Both the Xperia pro and Xperia neo feature the Mobile BRAVIA Engine, designed to deliver a crystal clear screen image.
Sony's Exmor R for mobile sensor is designed to enable the capture of high quality, bright pictures and HD videos even in low light. Both phones also allow a user to share both HD pictures and video on an HD TV via the built in HDMI-connector.
The Xperia neo is ergonomically designed to fit perfectly in a user's hand, particularly for taking pictures.
Both smartphones will provide access to Google Mobile Services and applications available via the Android market. Xperia smartphones also have apps, maps, email and access to the web with Adobe Flash Player.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia neo will be available in blue gradient, red and silver.
The Xperia neo will be available in selected markets from the end of Q1 2011 and the Xperia pro will be available from the end of Q2 2011.
