Software allows PlayStation to be used on Android portable devices
Sony PlayStation has revealed the PlayStation Suite (PS Suite), which delivers the PlayStation experience to Android OS-based portable devices.
The PlayStation Suite is designed to allow users to access PlayStation content on an open operating system for the first time.
There are a rapidly growing number of gamers accessing content on mobile devices, the PS Suite caters to these users and to this rapidly growing market segment. The PS Suite is also designed to allow developers and publishers to expand their businesses and opportunities to these devices.
Sony PlayStation will begin a ‘PlayStation Certified' license programme for hardware manufacturers that will offer support such as development support and logo licensing, to make sure the quality of experiences delivered through the Android devices reflects the PlayStation quality experience.
Sony Gulf is planning to release the PS Suite software during 2011, starting with original PlayStation games (PS1 classics) that are designed to allow users to enjoy PlayStation gameplay on their Android based devices.
Sony Gulf also plans to open a new PlayStation Store where users will be able to download content directly via their Android devices.
The company is also going to provide a new game development environment for PS Suite, designed to offer opportunities for a wider base of developers and publishers and PS Suite will also be able to be used on Sony's upcoming NGP gaming device.
