Initial registration for .emarat domains extended
TRA announces a six-month extension on introductory offer
The introductory period for the registration of .emarat domain names, called the Sunrise period, has been extended by six months by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
This extended window will give trademark owners a longer period to take advantage of a range of benefits including the ease of registration process and the competitive cost.
"We are committed to support Trademark owners while applying to acquire an Arabic domain name, therefore we decided to extend the Sunrise period. .emarat represents various commercial advantages that can enhance and strengthen the communication between businesses and their clients. Ownership of .emarat domains will secure intellectual property rights related to their Trademark and opens vast opportunities for more businesses to take advantage of the Arabic names for their brands," said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.
The Arabic domain name allows Arabic businesses to communicate better with a larger segment of Arabic internet users, according to the TRA.
The TRA said that the acquisition of an Arabic domain name during the Sunrise period will prevent any legal disputes that may arise over people registering well-known trademarks as domain names and then selling them back to companies at a large sum.
The TRA has given accreditation to a number of registrars to aid the .emarat registration process.
