SAP has announced the appointment of Amr Ghoneim as the new country general manager for the company in Egypt.

Ghoneim joins SAP from IBM, where we was most recently regional client executive of IBM MEA, and was previously GM for IBM Egypt.

In his new role for SAP, Ghoneim will oversee a planned expansion of the company's business in the country, and work to address the opportunities in the local market.

Sam Alkharrat, managing director, SAP MENA said: "These are exciting times for SAP in the Middle East and North Africa region as we plan to expand our footprint and capabilities to become the partner of choice for businesses across the region. We are heavily investing in hiring top talent who are committed to working with government and business leaders to help enable their businesses to become better run."

"Amr Ghoneim's track record of delivering significant customer value and growth, as well as his deep expertise and market insights, will be instrumental as we embark on our next wave of growth in Egypt and across the MENA region," continued Alkharrat.

SAP plans to expand its resources in Egypt, with the recruitment of more local staff and expansion of its channel ecosystem. The company also plans to move to new, larger offices in Egypt by March of this year to accommodate growing headcount across a range of roles, including sales, pre-sales, consultants, services, and marketing executives. SAP says it will also introduce global and industry best practices to the Egyptian market.

Ghoneim said: "MENA represents one of the fastest growing markets within SAP, largely due to the solid and progressive foundation already established, and Egypt forms an important hub for SAP's operations in the region. I am delighted to take on the role and build on SAP's achievements by continuing to place the customer at the centre of SAP's endeavours, expand our local ecosystem and extend the company's role as a contributor to the Egypt's economic development vision."
