Qatari telco operator Qtel has expanded its Mobile Money Programme in the country to provide the people of Qatar with a comprehensive suite of financial services available via a mobile phone. The new portfolio of services, called Qtel Mobile Money, has been designed to offer financial services for all its customers in the country, whether or not they hold a bank account.

The new service, which will be operational next year, will offer a range of services including instant cash transfers, cash payments to shops via mobiles, and cash withdrawal from ATMs using Qtel Mobile Money accounts.

The operator is working along with the Qatar-based financial service provider, QNB, to deliver security and convenience for customers using the mobile money services. Qtel is also liaising with favourite retailers and merchants across the country, so that people will be able to buy goods and services using their Mobile Money accounts.

Earlier Qtel won the UN's Best m-Entertainment and Lifestyle Service award for its Mozaic mobile content offering, at the World Summit Awards (WSA)-mobile Outstanding Regional Achievement Awards 2010.

In October, Qtel launched the International Airtime Credit transfer enabling its customers to transfer credits to India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka through an established airtime network.

Qtel has its presence in about 17 countries spread across MENA and South East Asia.
