Mobinil, Alcatel launch mobile advertising service
Operator’s soft launch saw over 200,000 users opt-in for the service
Egyptian mobile phone operator, Mobinil, has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent to introduce a mobile advertising service that enables its mobile subscribers in Egypt to have access to interactive advertising tailored to their personal interests.
The operator has undergone a soft launch that saw more than 200,000 subscribers opt-in for the service. Advertising partners during the launch included Adidas and Nokia.
Hassan Kabbani, CEO of Mobinil, said that the operator decided to launch the advertising service to cater to its clients in sectors including banking, entertainment and the media.
Kabbani also said that since customers receive only adverts relevant to their interests, advertisers using the service have had a strong response during the campaigns.
Based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Optism mobile marketing solution, the mobile advertising service provides over 30 million Mobinil customers with a permission and preference-based mobile advertising service, allowing for opt-in to receive adverts and offers such as promotions, discounts, content from international brands.
Amr El-Leithy, head of Alcatel-Lucent business in the Middle East and Africa, said: “This commercial contract illustrates our commitment to helping mobile operators identify strategic market opportunities and determine the appropriate business model for their market.”
