ThinkQuest 2011 opens for entries
Oracle urges Middle East students to participate in technology competition
Entries are now open for students to battle against each other in the field of technology with the ThinkQuest International Competition 2011, sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation (OEF).
The competition consists of three events which challenge students, up to age 22, to solve a real problem by applying critical thinking, communication, and technology skills.
Around 4,700 teams from 83 different countries are participating in the competition this year.
"We encourage strong participation from the Middle East in this global competition, which presents an ideal platform for participants to showcase their technological knowledge and creativity," said Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban, Vice President, Oracle Middle East & Africa: "Country Leader, Oracle, KSA.
The three different events are: ThinkQuest Projects, Digital Media and Application Development. In the ThinkQuest challenge, students will use a hosted environment to produce web-based learning projects to create their entry.
The Digital Media event asks students to create a blog, journal, website, animation, public service announcement, photo essay, video or a combination of these, using digital media tools.
The Application Development challenge invites students to create a web-based application or game using a programming language chosen from a set list.
"Our experience shows that when students collaborate on subjects about which they care deeply, they produce inspiring work" said Brad Saffer, Vice President, Oracle Corporate Citizenship. "We encourage teachers and students to take part in this powerful learning experience and look forward to seeing the results of their efforts."
Their entries will be judged by professional educators from around the globe.
Entries must be submitted by April 27, 2011 so teams have eight months to create their project.
Prizes include laptop computers, monetary grants for the coach's school or organisation and a trip to ThinkQuest Live.
