Riverbed enhances the network
WAN optimisation solutions help enable private clouds
With companies increasingly battling to cope with surging amounts of data on their networks, Riverbed is using GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK as a platform to promote its full range of products and services, with a particular focus on its WAN optimisation solutions including its Steelhead appliances and the Riverbed Services Platform.
Mark Lewis, EMEA marketing director, Riverbed, says that the company's products can improve remote productivity, enable ‘private clouds' and provide enterprise wide network application and visibility. By speeding the performance of applications between remote offices, private data centres and mobile workers by up to 100 times, Riverbed's Steelhead products can help companies to consolidate IT, improve back up and boost collaboration.
"There are two key areas that we are promoting. We duplicate data across the network, so we reduce the amount of traffic, and second we do is we accelerate applications so we reduce the chattiness across the WAN and in a nutshell what that means is we allow the WAN to perform like a LAN, both in terms of speed and capacity," says Lewis.
"A lot of people here have been consolidating data centres and they have been using consolidation and virtualisation to do that. What they have really been doing with Riverbed involved is consolidating two data centres, and that enabled them to build the private cloud," Lewis adds. "We are hearing a lot of people are talking about the private cloud. But when people transition from private cloud to public providers, what does it look like and what will the performance be like?"
The company also plans to launch two new cloud-specific solutions in November, the CSH Cloud Steelhead and the Cloud Storage Accelerator, to address applications and storage in the cloud.
