Redington moves into new distribution centre
Giant Jebel Ali facility to boost stock management and warehousing capabilities
Redington Gulf is close to officially unveiling its new automated distribution centre (ADC), capping a project that has been in the making for the past four years.
The state-of the- art facility spans 100,000 square feet and is located just 20 minutes from the upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport in Jebel Ali.
During the past few years, Redington has increasingly referred to its ‘supply chain' capabilities rather than portraying itself simply as an IT distributor. The size and scale of the new centre underscores this vision.
Writing in the company's latest newsletter for partners, Redington Gulf's director Raj Shankar outlined some of the advantages the facility will offer.
"The ADC will be an advance radio frequency (RFI) and fully Wi-Fi-enabled warehouse which will help in locating the product following its barcode," he noted. "The facility will be capable of handling 10,000 pallet positions and 25 loading bays. The implementation of ‘Task Resource Management' will help reduce turnaround time for better execution of orders."
Once it is fully operational, the facility will enable Redington to provide additional logistics and warehousing facilities to vendors and improve service levels to partners, according to Shankar.
Redington is the largest IT distributor in the Middle East region, with sales of US$1.19 billion last year, according to the 2010 Channel Middle East Power List. The company employs more than 400 people and holds authorised distribution rights for vendors such as Acer, Cisco, Dell, HP and Samsung.
