Qatari port operator has awarded Qtel the contract to host its infrastructure.

Qatar port operator Mawani has selected Qtel to provide it with datacentre technology.

The agreement calls for Qtel to host Mawani's primary IT infrastructure in its datacentre, with a high-speed connections established to the port area. The implementation is set to go live in August, when Mawani embarks on its own expansion plans to work with ports outside of the Emirate.

Captain Abdullah Al Khungi, Marine Services Manager, Mawani, said: "Mawani has selected Qtel as a technology partner because of its world-class expertise and its capacity to provide performance, speed and technology in the manner we require. Mawani has an ambitious vision for development that will benefit the global marine port industry, and it is important we build our foundations with companies like Qtel who provide the same level of leadership in their industries."

Apart from Qatar's ports, Mawani also handles a number of international marine port interests. First established in July 2009, Mawani is expected to enable Qatar's ambition to become a major regional logistics and shipping hub. The firm opted for Qtel's systems as it produces large volumes of data daily and needed a solution that was flexible enough to deal with equivalent quantities coming in from as overseas ports in the future.
