UAE lifts ban on Flickr
Flickr had previously been blocked by the UAE's TRA.

The UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has lifted its ban on the photo sharing website Flickr.

UAE telecom operator Etisalat announced in a Tweet that the ban on website has been lifted following discussions between Yahoo!, the site's owners, and the TRA.

Launched in 2005, the site contains images uploaded by users and is said to contain more than five billion photos. However the TRA said some of the images were "inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the UAE".

Yahoo! did not disclose what agreement had been reached that had led to the lifting of the ban but sources told the newspaper that a content filtering system has been introduced similar to one in operation in Singapore.
