PTCL's 3G tech is expected to provide mobile broadband with speeds of up to 9.3Mbps in Pakistan.

Pakistan Telecommunication Co (PTCL) has announced the launch of its new wireless broadband connection ‘EVO 3G Nitro' service, which is expected to offer theoretical download speeds of up to 9.3Mbps, with uplink speeds of up to 5.4Mbps, according to Pakistan's Daily Times newspaper.

PTCL, which offers mobile services under the Ufone banner, claims that it is the first in the world to roll out the service commercially, based on EV-DO Rev B technology.

The newspaper quoted Naveed Saeed, senior executive vice president, PTCL, as saying that the deployment reinforced the company's technological lead in the sector.

It further quoted Saeed saying:  "Working in a market where technology changes every minute, we at PTCL always strive to introduce products and services that add more value to our customers' lives, and PTCL's ‘EVO 3G Nitro' is one such product that will completely revolutionise the way our customers communicate."
