Samsung launches new mobile PCs
Samsung's 'R' and 'N' series both gain new models. The Korean firm is also planning to launch newer mobile machines closer to GITEX Technology Week
Samsung Gulf Electronics has updated its mobile PC line with the launch of its new ‘R' and ‘N' series products.
"We have already seen a successful 2010 line-up with our first phase of notebooks and netbooks, and with the latest R- and N- series models we are confident we will maintain growth in notebook and netbook sales in the region. We are always researching ways to develop more innovative and user-friendly features with our notebooks to meet and surpass a user's expectations," said Raj Varma, Business Head of Notebooks, IT Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
The new additions to the ‘R' series include the R590, R440 and R540. The R590 and R540 both feature 15.6-inch LCD screens though the R590's LCD boasts Full HD 1080p content compatibility. The R590 also features Samsung's ‘USB Sleep-and-Charge' technology which allows a user to charge portable devices such as mobile phones, even when the machine is switched off. The R590 targets users interested in high-performance whereas the R540 is designed as an entry-level notebook.
The R440 differs from the R590 and R540 in that it features a 14-inch LCD screen and so targets users more interested in mobility.
The new N210 Plus is a high-end addition to Samsung's ‘N' series and targets premium netbook users. The netbook offers a claimed 13.5-hours of battery life, features a 10.1-inch LED screen and is equipped with an Atom N450 processor and 2GB of DDR2 memory. The existing N150 Plus also gets a minor update in the form of two new colours.
"These products represent Samsung's second cycle of notebooks and netbooks," concluded Madhav Narayan, General Manager of Samsung's IT Sales Group.
