Logicom to distribute Hitachi hard drives
Regional agreement covers internal devices and branded external products
Logicom has moved to expand its storage portfolio by signing a distribution agreement with Hitachi Global Storage Technologies for a number of emerging markets, including the Middle East.
The partnership - which comes less than a year after Logicom split from Seagate - will see the distributor offer Hitachi GST's hard disk drives and external storage products to channel customers around the region.
The products that Logicom will carry will include Travelstar mobile drives, Deskstar desktop drives, Ultrastar enterprise drives, CinemaStar audio/video optimised drives and Hitachi external hard drives.
"This agreement makes sense for both companies and it's great that Logicom customers can start to benefit from increased availability of Hitachi's products," said Michael Papaeracleous, executive director of distribution at Logicom.
"We believe there is great potential in all our markets and we have a good plan in place to help Hitachi achieve their goals," he added.
In addition to the Middle East, the agreement extends to Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, the Balkans and Italy.
Steve Pereira, VP EMEA at Hitachi GST, insists the decision to partner with Logicom gives the company the "necessary focus" that it needs to address the regional market place.
"As we enter the second half of 2010 and the demand for HDD and external storage solutions among consumers and business enterprise continues to grow, it's important to ensure that we are well placed to take advantage of the opportunities that the Middle East, Balkans and Turkey represent," said Pereria.
