Nokia launches new Ramadan downloadable apps
Range of applications to celebrate Ramadan to be available on Ovi store
Nokia has announced a new range of mobile applications and content for the holy month of Ramadan, which will be available to download from its Ovi store.
The new and enhanced applications for 2010 have been developed by Nokia Premium Partner ASGATech reviewed and approved by Al Azhar Al Shareef, the mosque and Islamic university.
The applications include the Holy Quran; prayer timings and Qibla direction for 1,000 different cities; Hadith application with a range of sources; Boyoot Allah to locate mosques on Ovi maps; Arabica service to help non-Arabic speaking Muslims to understand religious teaching; a multimedia guide to the cities of Makkah and Madinah, and Mozzaker to listen to, search, download and translate Azkar prayers and to share via SMS or MMS.
Karim Moussa, head of Marketing, Nokia Lower Gulf explained: "The overwhelming response and feedback that we received from last year's offering and the number of downloads that exceeded a million, allowed us to improve and expand this year's application offering. Nokia users have now a single and easy access to many of the cherished experiences that Muslims like to be close to, and keep them connected to the Holy Month. The applications this year also support a wider range of devices including both touch and non-touch Nokia devices, and are available in more languages.
"This is a region that is greatly important to us and we have committed to ensuring that we tailor solutions that meet the local needs. Ramadan applications for 2010 are free and offer a variety of content from a range of global and local content providers ready to be downloaded for the widest range of devices," he added.
