MTN and Arieso sign pact for network optimisation
Deal covers MTN’s 21 operators and over 123 million subscribers across Africa and Middle East
South African mobile operator MTN Group has signed a deal with Arieso, a UK-based mobile network optimisation specialist, to boost its 2G and 3G network capacity.
Under the agreement, Arieso will be the preferred supplier of optimisation software and systems for MTN Group across its 21 operations in Africa and the Middle East.
Arieso's mobile network management and optimisation technology is targeted at mobile operators that are experiencing high growth in data traffic, but whose radio network quality is suffering because of insufficient network capacity.
The technology uses information about the location of subscribers and their usage patterns to improve network performance and quality of service.
Navi Naidoo, general manager of network technology at MTN Group, said: "Our rapid growth across different markets, together with the explosion in demand for mobile broadband in Africa and the Middle East, means we need powerful, scalable solutions that help us actively manage and optimise our networks. Arieso's network optimisation technology addresses this need in accordance with end-user requirement and our own CAPEX and OPEX guidelines."
Shirin Dehghan, CEO of Arieso, added: "Our group-wide agreement with MTN is a significant step forward in Arieso's ongoing global expansion. We now look forward to working with the various MTN operators to deliver enhanced network performance and improved subscriber experience to all their customers."
MTN Group serves more than 123 million 2G and 3G subscribers across 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East including South Africa, Botswana, Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Iran, Syria and Yemen.
