Avnet given go-ahead to sell Foxconn motherboards
Agreement for AMD-based models expanded to the Middle East
Foxconn has expanded its existing European distribution agreement with Avnet Technology Solutions to include the Middle East and North Africa.
The move means Avnet is now authorised to distribute Foxconn's AMD-based motherboards to its channel partners throughout the region.
Foxconn offers a range of motherboards based on AMD chipsets, including the A7GM-S 2.O and A74ML-K models.
Avnet serves the MENA region from its regional headquarters in Dubai, where it has built up a broad customer base of system developers and OEMs.
Its local operations are headed by Jamal Qaffaf, who is supported by Chris Green, Farooq Khawaja - formerly of HK Consulting - and Omar Fakhri, who recently joined the company from DTK to run its memory business.
In a separate move last week, Avnet Technology Solutions named Graeme Watt as president of its EMEA business. Watt was formerly president of worldwide distribution for storage distributor Bell Micro, which Avnet recently acquired for US$252m.
Watt was also once president of Tech Data EMEA at a time when the company still had operations in the Middle East.
"Bell Micro's product lines and technical expertise will increase Avnet's value-added solutions for the data centre and complement Avnet's existing suppliers and service expertise, creating opportunities for cross-selling," stated Watt. "I am committed to helping this team, as well as our customers and suppliers, take advantage of all the new opportunities available to both organisations."
