Qatar first to get BlackBerry Storm2
Qtel makes latest touchscreen BlackBerry smartphone available through its retail stores
Qatar is the first Gulf country to launch Research in Motion's latest touchscreen BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone.
Qatar Telecom (Qtel) says that the new smartphone, which was first launched by RIM in October last year, is available for customers at all Qtel retail shops.
There's still no word on when the smartphone will be released in the United Arab Emirates from operators Etisalat and Du.
Storm2 with BlackBerry OS 5.0 comes with hardware and software enhancements over its predecessor that received less than stellar reviews when it was launched in 2008. Users complained that the virtual keyboard was not very responsive with noted tech blog Engadget saying that "it's not as easy, enjoyable, or consistent to use as the iPhone..."
Features of the Storm2 include new SurePress ‘clickable' display technology, a generous 3.25" screen, built-in Wi-Fi, a 3.2 megapixel camera as well as 2GB of internal memory.
