Du cuts international mobile calling rates with launch of flat tariff structure

Du, the UAE's second telecom operator, has launched a new uniform tariff structure for international calls, which offers mobile subscribers a modest discount for calls to various countries, compared with the previous tariffs.

The new initiative, which is called One World Plan, allows Du mobile subscribers to call any country in the world for AED1.2 per minute, from Saturday to Thursday between 9pm and 9am and all day Friday, or for AED2.4 per minute, from Saturday to Thursday, 9am to 9pm.

This compares with the operator's previous standard off-peak rates, which varied between AED1.36 and AED2.11 per minute depending on the country being called, and peak rates of between AED2.4 and AED2.68 per minute.

Farid Faraidooni, Du's COO, said the tariff structure was designed to simplify international calling rates. "By introducing a flat calling rate, customers need not navigate a maze of international calling rates," he said.

The initiative follows closely from an offer by Du's rival operator Etisalat, which launched cut-rate international calls for its fixed line subscribers earlier in the week.
