Hewlett-Packard has launched a new device in the United Arab Emirates that is both a laptop and a tablet PC.

The 12.1" HP TouchSmart tm2 Notebook PC, which costs AED 4,499 at most leading electronics retail stores in the country, has an aluminum chassis that can be twisted from a notebook into slate.

The device comes with a capacitive touch display that supports a range of multi-touch features such as zooming in or out, rotate, scroll, as well as moving an object with pinch and drag movements using fingertips. Additionally, the HP TouchSmart software makes use of touch-enabled apps for games, music, film, videos, photos and even the social media platform Twitter.

A digital pen that accompanies the slate acts similarly to how a pen would work on paper, and can be used to make handwritten notes, draw and even annotate documents.

The HP TouchSmart tm2 Notebook PC is said to have a battery life of eight hours, powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and operating Windows 7 Home edition.

The company says the device is designed to give customers the flexibility to adapt with how they access and interact with content.
