Bahrain MOE and Cisco to partner on education
Bahrain Ministry of Education and Cisco to collaborate on ICT in education
MANAMA, Bahrain: The Bahrain Ministry of Education and Cisco have signed a strategic agreement to collaborate on integrating ICT into education throughout the Kingdom.
The two will work together to develop a technology blueprint, which will encompass best practice and the latest technology to enhance education in Bahrain, in line with the Kingdom's strategic vision for 2030.
The agreement, signed yesterday at the Cisco Networkers Bahrain 2010 event, will include integration of ICT into K-12 curriculum, and the development of the technology blueprint, which will provide a model of how technology solutions can be deployed in schools.
Cisco will also help the Ministry of Education to use UNESCO's ‘Education IT Maturity' model to asses schools in the Kingdom on their readiness of educational establishments to further utilize IT in education and administration.
The company will also share best practices to further the Ministry's higher education reform agenda.
HE Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain said: "The signing of this strategic agreement is a momentous development for both the Kingdom of Bahrain and Cisco as it will enable a greater synergy between our respective organizations to facilitate the sharing of best practices and thought leadership, with specific focus on the role of ICT in schools and higher education.
"By partnering with a global leader in networking technology solutions, the ministry will be able to further its goal to propagate the effective use of ICT across all the schools in the Kingdom to promote collaboration and gain the optimum benefit from the diverse educational resources available worldwide," he added.
Duncan Mitchell, senior vice president, Cisco Emerging Markets East and executive sponsor, Cisco Networkers 2010 Bahrain, commented: Cisco is a firm believer that a first-rate education system enables individuals, organizations and nations to fulfill their ambitions. We are delighted to further strengthen our collaboration with the Ministry of Education to accelerate the transformation of the education sector in Bahrain. The Kingdom's next generation of leaders will benefit from a 21st century learning experience. This strategic agreement also marks another significant step in our relationship with the Government of Bahrain, which truly recognizes and harnesses the power of ICT at the heart of national reform."
Cisco and the Ministry of Education also outlined possible further areas for collaboration through Cisco programs such as the Cisco Networking Academy and the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute.
