Emitac announces e-waste tie-up with Akhdar
Distributor looks for a greener way to dispose of old products and spare parts
Emitac Distribution is doing its bit for the environment by teaming up with Akhdar to ensure that the electrical waste it handles on a daily basis is disposed of in a proper way.
Akhdar - a ‘green Integrated solution provider' co-founded by former APC Middle East boss Philip Hughes - will collect e-waste from the HP and Acer distributor's UAE operation and ensure it is recycled.
"We are very pleased to say that all our e-waste is now picked up on a regular basis from branches in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi and sent for ethical recycling," explained Amer Khreino, CEO at Emitac Distribution.
"It relieves us of a lot of burden knowing that all the waste is being recycled without harming the environment in any way or being exported to developing countries and adding to the pollution there," he said.
Emitac admits that getting rid of e-waste in an ethical fashion had become "a concern" for its management due to the volume of IT products and spares that it deals with every week, particularly as it runs a number of service centres.
The distributor says it has devised a long-term plan with Akhdar which will be executed in a series of stages. The plan includes running campaigns with partners and customers to encourage end-users to drop off their old equipment at designated outlets where it will then be sent for recycling.
Akhdar offers a range of services, including e-waste collection, data destruction on storage devices, ethical end of life programmes and green audit trail reporting.
