Thousands that pre-registered for Viva mobile numbers see service available today

Viva, the third mobile operator in Bahrain was inaugurated yesterday at an event held under the patronage of prime minister His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa.

Viva is backed by the Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) and has already seen "thousands of people" pre-register for mobile numbers based on the firm's prefix 33.

Commercial services are being launched today (March 4th) onwards, with a full list of pricing and special promotional offers including free calls to STC and VIVA numbers and up to 90% off on international calls being detailed on their site.

"The launch of Viva in the Kingdom of Bahrain is a reflection of the partnership vision between the two kingdoms and a reflection of the long-standing relations between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as it is characterized on the historical ties of brotherhood and love between the leaderships and peoples of the two countries and is seeing significant growth at all levels from the constant, shared visions that brings them ever closer," said Dr. Mohammed bin Suleiman Al-Jasser, chairman of the STC Group.

Ibrahim bin Abdulrahman Al-Omar, CEO of Viva in Bahrain said that their services will "leave a positive outlook on everyone in the Kingdom".

Under new regulations announced by the country's telecom regulatory authority (TRA), Batelco will be able to set retail prices without seeking prior approval in a bid to stay competitive over rivals Zain and now Viva.
