Acer to focus on SMB and enterprise with Gateway brand
Multi-brand approach will see Acer put out solutions for SMB and enterprise customers under the Gateway brand in Europe
Acer is to use a multi-brand strategy to address the SMB and enterprise PC market in Europe, through its Gateway brand.
The Gateway business, which was acquired by Acer in 2007, will be the focus of Acer's offerings for the professional market.
"We've been spending the past two years reinforcing our consumer product offering," said Acer CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci. "We started thinking about reinforcing the professional business over a year ago."
For the SMB segment, Gateway is delivering a product family based on Intel CPUs, for affordability, along with simple integration with Microsoft's family of SMB products.
While Acer already makes 30% of its revenues from SMB users, though its professional PC range, the new strategy will bring additional focus to the market, with the Gateway brand dedicated to business solutions. A new Acer and Gateway SMB Server line-up will be available in tower, rack and an expanding blade portfolio,
with universal options including gold certified power supplies. The SMB Storage family will range from tape drives to easy to deploy SAN solutions.
Acer is also extending the Gateway brand to its alliance with Hitachi Data System (HDS), for the development of storage solutions tailored to the SMB market, with solutions, branded under the Acer/HDS and Gateway/HDS name.
"We have designed the new range of servers and storage products focusing on meeting the needs of the SMB and HPC market"- said Gianluca Degliesposti, vice president Global Server Business Development. - "Our goal is to deliver simple, innovative products that empower channel partners to effectively address their end-user's needs."
For high end users, Acer's high performance computing (HPC) portfolio includes blades and modular servers as well as high performance storage solutions. Acer will be offering blueprint and shrink wrap solutions to make the once complex HPC environments available to all customer segments. Acer will pair the solutions with a dedicated HPC Competency Centre and the development of a global HPC Advisory Council.
