Kaspersky shores up MEA business with African hub

Antivirus software vendor takes action to provide improved support for local partners

Following moves to establish a stronger presence in the Middle East during the past 12 months, Kaspersky has now turned its attention to ramping up sales in Africa by opening an office in Johannesburg.

The office will serve as a hub for the entire sub-Saharan region, providing operational management, brand promotion and sales support for local partners.

Russia-based Kaspersky says the push to achieve a greater footprint across Africa is part of a wider "international expansion" strategy that it is pursuing.

Garry Kondakov, managing director for Kaspersky Lab EEMEA, insists the decision to open the South African facility follows calls from customers and resellers for direct support.  

"This [office] will enable Kaspersky to get that much closer to each of our African customers and business partners to provide the level of support that we have made the hallmark of our company," he said.

The antivirus software company is aiming to hire 10 employees for the new office by the end of next year, with sales, marketing and technical positions the priority. It is understood that Kondakov will initially manage the business.

"Further development and cementing of our partnerships across the region is the key to unlocking the tremendous potential for our products in Africa," he added. "I am certain that we are positioned to do great things for both our business partners and our African customers in the years ahead."

The MEA region is becoming increasingly important for Kaspersky. As well as expanding its Middle East team, the company recently redesigned its local channel partner programme and held a region-wide partner conference in Dubai.
