SMART ditches single-distributor model as it looks to boost KSA fortunes

SMART and Obeikan officials agree on a strategy for the Saudi market.

Interactive whiteboard maker SMART Technologies has confirmed the appointment of Obeikan as an authorised distributor of its products in Saudi Arabia.

The move makes Obeikan the second major partner for SMART in KSA, as the company already works closely with Samir Photographic Supplies.

SMART is optimistic that the addition of Obeikan will spur it to gain an even larger share of the Saudi education and business markets, both of which remain key segments for whiteboard sales.

The vendor believes there is still plenty of untapped potential in Saudi Arabia as less than 3% of classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards. Globally, more than two million interactive whiteboards have been installed and this figure should rise to more than seven million units during the next five years, according to research firm Futuresource Consulting.

David Martin, executive chairman and co-founder at SMART Technologies, insists the company is focused on ensuring customers receive the highest standard of training, service and support.

"The appointment of Obeikan as SMART's distributor will help drive growth, and is the next logical step to strengthen relationships and provide more local customer support in the region," said Martin.

Sheik Fahd Obeikan, chairman at Al-Obeikan Investment Group, stated: "Obeikan fully believes in the potential and the value of the SMART solution, which is why we are greatly confident that this partnership will open new and exciting possibilities for business growth for our respective companies."

Obeikan and Samir will provide training, support and professional development to all new and existing SMART customers. The localised resources will supplement SMART's online support, which includes a variety of tools and training and development programmes.
