ROI is key for CIOs, insists Amin.

EMC has the technology to satisfy the changing needs of under-fire IT managers in the region. That’s the message from the storage giant’s MEA chief, Mohammed Amin, who notes a definite pattern in the IT priorities of regional end-users these days.

“There are two things that every CIO is looking for,” says Amin. “One is return on investment and how you make the IT operations more efficient and the other is cost of investment. They are thinking about how to get much, much more with less. We are definitely very aware of that and this behaviour of building a more efficient data centre is something that EMC will be leading through virtualisation and cloud computing.”

EMC has this week been teaming up with partners such as Dell to showcase its latest unified storage offerings, including its innovative CLARiiON, Celerra and V-Max product ranges.

As well as its presence at the ITP VIP lounge, where it has been meeting with partners and clients, EMC professionals have been on hand at Dell’s stand to show how it can help midrange firms.

Amin believes the quality of the company’s technology has left it well-placed to help customers deal with the challenges they face.

“I think we are very lucky because even before the [global economic] crisis, how to drive down the cost of ownership was one of the main things for EMC,” he says. “I always say to my customers and prospects, the price of the initial acquisition in EMC might sometimes be a little more expensive because we have better technology, but the cost of ownership of EMC technology over three years is definitely one of the best in the market.”
