Key Information Technology (KIT) is set to become one of the first resellers in the region to offer customers help with their CSR and e-waste disposal concerns after teaming up with integrated green solutions specialist Akhdar.

Dubai-based Akhdar has this week been training the KIT team to understand the e-waste requirements of end-users so that they can deal with the issue in a way that that benefits both the customer and the environment. “KIT is the first reseller in the region to realise that they need to adapt their sales processes and offerings because they are starting to see client demand for ethical and green solutions,” explains Philip Hughes, director at Akhdar.

“We have been working together to come up with a business model that adds value, educates their sales and employee teams and helps them to give what the customers are starting to ask for,” adds Hughes.

While the US and Europe has largely led the way in green IT initiatives, there is a growing awareness in the Middle East that obsolete electronic products cannot simply be disposed in the same way as household rubbish.

“You have two choices,” says Hughes. “You can throw it away and forget about it or you can understand the problems that such products are causing to the environment and handle it through safe, ethical and certified processes.”

Akhdar will help KIT develop policies for addressing customers’ e-waste requirements and the security implications attached to processes such as data destruction. Akhdar will also ensure the safe disposal or reuse of unwanted IT and electronics equipment.
