Qatar's managed IT services provider MEEZA has announced a new service which will focus on IT innovation, research and education.

The new MEEZA Labs will work to accelerate MEEZA's own uptake of innovation in technology and methods through forging close ties with private and public labs, and will also carry out research and education programs around innovation.

MEEZA Labs will be run by Dr Jaouad Alkhaliki, who has been appointed to the role of director.

Alkhaliki said: "I'm delighted to be joining the dynamic team at MEEZA. As director of MEEZA Labs I will be tasked with helping MEEZA's operation team validate technologies and provide them with early access to other technologies. Together our aim is to establish MEEZA as a thought leader in the MENA region, actively contributing to establishing Qatar as a knowledge-based society."

Alkhaliki has previously held senior roles related to strategy, innovation and technology with IBM and Renault, and brings 15 years of experience in a number of industries including IT, petroleum, digital media, automotive, aerospace, bioscience and manufacturing.

James Fanella, CEO of MEEZA commented: "I'm delighted to welcome such a talented and knowledgeable individual to our team. Dr. Alkhaliki has extensive experience in the IT services sector and will be invaluable in helping drive forward our new innovation programme at MEEZA."
