Zain goes for FortiGate to boost security stance
Mohammad Haj Ali, senior network administrator at Zain, explains that the Telecom’s company is currently testing its recently integrated security investment with Fortinet and once concluded hopes to begin offering managed security to its clients.

Kuwait-based Zain Group, has deployed network security provider and unified threat management (UTM) vendor Fortinet's FortiGate carrier-class security chassis as the cornerstone of its managed security service in their Jordan office in an effort to address its own security needs.

Zain, formerly known as the Mobile Telecommunications Company, says that it has implemented FortiGate's security virtualisation and integrated protection to better serve its own clients. The solution is currently in the testing stage but once that is completed Zain plans to start offering managed security services to its customers.

According to Mohammad Haj Ali, senior network administrator at Zain: "Outsourcing selected security responsibilities by forming a partnership with a MSSP such as Zain can be a good option for enterprises that do not want the responsibility of managing their own security. Although those enterprises still own their information security and business risk, contracting with a third party allows them to share risk management and mitigation approaches."

The telecoms company conducted a two-month in-depth study of the appliance in cooperation with Fortinet's implementation partner OFFTEC in Kuwait.

According to Fortinet the end-user rested on the decision to purchase its FortiGate-5020 multi-threat security system because it offered it complete threat protection within a single solution which encapsulates firewall, IPS, VPN, traffic shaping, antivirus, antispyware, antispam, web filtering, and application control. The vendor further claimed that the new system provides a scalable platform that is 10-Gigabit Ethernet ready and delivers throughput ranging from five to 70 Gbps while maintaining ultra-low latency for even the most time-sensitive applications.
