Samsung says it is set to launch the lightest notebook in its class, the X420.

The laptop, which uses the new Intel Consumer Low Voltage (CULV) technology, weighs in at 1.7kg, with depth of just 23.2mm.

The 14 inch notebook includes low-energy LED screen and other power optimization features, to extract up to 9 hours of usage from it 6 cell battery, which Samsung says is also a best-in-class performance.

The X5420 runs a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium dual-core SU2700 processor, Intel GMA X4500M integrated graphics, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive.

For connectivity, the X420 includes an HDMI port, plus three USB 2.0 ports and a 3-in-1 memory card reader.

The notebook is set for release in the Middle East at the start of October.
