Zain launches Blackberry service in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s third mobile operator announces launch of Blackberry service in the country
Zain Saudi Arabia has launched Blackberry services for its customers in Saudi Arabia.
The operator, which announced the launch with Research in Motion and Alcatel-Lucent, will initially offer its customers Blackberry devices including the Curve 8900, Bold 9000, Pearl 8120 and Pearl Wifi smartphones. It will also offer services with BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry internet service, allowing users to access emails and browse the internet while on the move.
Network vendor Alcatel-Lucent worked with Zain and RIM to project manage the rollout of the service and will also handle on-going support for the service, allowing Zain to focus on customer services.
“The launch of the BlackBerry Internet Service, and other services after only a relatively short time on the Saudi market, demonstrates Zain’s commitment to achieving the highest levels of service at the most competitive prices for its customers,” said Ismaeel Mohammed Fikree, CEO, Zain Saudi Arabia.
Zain will compete directly with its rivals STC and Mobily, which already offer Blackberry services in Saudi Arabia.
Zain entered Saudi Arabia in 2008 as the country’s third mobile operator.
