Vodafone Qatar set to unveil call tariffs

Qatar's second mobile operator to announce flexible calling options to compete with Qtel.

Vodafone Qatar is expected to announce its mobile call rates on Monday ahead of its official roll-out of services planned for September.

Customers may get some “flexible calling options” when they pay for their local and international mobile calls and messages in advance through credit card, it was reported on Monday.
Qatar’s second mobile operator has notified the country’s telecom regulator, ictQATAR and tariffs for national voice and SMS, international voice and SMS and MMS and mobile Internet rates are likely to be announced later on Monday, Gulf Times reported.

Sources told the paper that Vodafone had designed a “flexi plan”, which aims to give customers “bonus value” and free “Vodafone minutes”.

They said the Vodafone rate card was “mostly comparable” to its rival Qtel though in certain segments it could be “attractive”.

Back in May, the company's CEO Grahame Maher said that Vodafone was eyeing other opportunities for expansion in the Middle East, without elaborating.

The telecoms company, a venture between Vodafone Group Plc and Qatar Foundation, raised about $1 billion in its initial public offering to Qatari nationals and expects to list the shares on the Doha Securities Market by the end of July.

Qtel and Vodafone have signed two agreements to share mobile towers and enable their customers to communicate with each other in Qatar.

The two deals for outdoor site sharing and interconnection were bilaterally negotiated and officially signed and Maher said network sharing "would be essential" if the industry was to survive.
