Zain poised to make 2,000 job cuts before 2011

Kuwait's mobile phone operator announces plans to cut its 15,500 strong workforce.

Kuwaiti mobile operator Mobile Telecommunications Co (Zain) will cut its 15,500 core workforce by about 2,000 staff members through to 2011.

The company said job cuts were part of a restructuring plan that includes outsourcing work.

The measures would affect all units, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Many of the 2,000 would continue working for Kuwait's biggest operator as outsourced contractors, a company spokesman added. (Reuters)
