Gitex Saudi opens for business
Gitex Saudi Arabia 2009 opens at new Riyadh International Exhibition Centre
Gitex Saudi Arabia 2009, the eight annual showcase for the IT industry in the Kingdom, opened yesterday in Riyadh.
The show was opened by Abdul Rahman Al-Jaafari, governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), at the new Riyadh International Exhibition Centre.
Gitex Riyadh is expected to attract over 400 companies from fifteen countries, with over 100,000 visitors. Saudi Arabia is the biggest market for technology in the region, accounting for over 40% of Middle East IT spend, to create a market worth nearly $5 billion.
Speaking to press at the show, Al-Jaafari, acknowledged that exhibitor numbers were down from previous years, and said this could be due to the global financial crisis and that the organizers should have followed a better marketing strategy to attract more participants since the Kingdom remains a vibrant market despite the global economic downturn, according to Arab News newspaper.
Running alongside of the main exhibition will be Gitex Saudi Arabia Computer Shopper 2009, the leading retail event for IT vendors in the Kingdom.
