Etisalat steps up efforts to cash in on netbook frenzy
Partners with LG and HP to offer free mobile broadband trials with special netbook bundles
Etisalat is partnering with a number of computer manufacturers in the region in an effort to cash in on the high demand for netbooks and promote its mobile broadband data packages through special bundle offers.
Just last month the telco partnered with Acer, where customers could get an Aspire One netbook together with a free one month mobile broadband data package subscription for AED 1,849. Further discounts on the data package for the next 24 months meant that customers enjoyed total savings of AED 2,300 over two years.
Now, both LG and Hewlet-Packard Middle East have come out with similar promotions.
The LG 3G+Netbook, which has a 10” LCD display and weighs just 1.2 kilograms, is available for AED 2,199 together with a thirty day data package. The company is also giving away an external Slim Drive and a netbook pouch as part of the offer.
In contrast, HP Middle East is bundling its Compaq Mini 700 with Etisalat’s data package for just AED 1,799. The Mini comes with Bluetooth, a built-in webcam and microphone and a 10.2” BrightView display.
Demand is poised to increase in the region as more people are lured by the convenience, ease of use and cost-effectiveness of netbooks. Global market intelligence firm IDC recently revealed that nearly 10 million netbooks were shipped worldwide in 2008 and predicts that that figure will double this year.
