Bintel seals deal with Redknee
Operator hopes to differentiate its service in Gabon with converged billing and electronic payments
Bintel, an emerging markets mobile operator, is planning to offer its customers in Gabon mobile top-ups and converged billing, after signing a deal with US mobile software specialist, Redknee.
Bintel said the deal will enable it to “differentiate its offering and provide an enhanced subscriber experience” when it launches its mobile service in Gabon later this year.
By deploying Redknee’s Mobile Money Airtime Reseller service, Bintel will be able to allow its mobile subscribers to buy pre-paid airtime using electronic, mobile-to-mobile transfer of minutes from a local reseller.
Bintel expects the service to prove popular with users in remote areas, who often struggle to find outlets selling regular top-up vouchers.
“Redknee’s experience in helping wireless operators attract underserved or unpenetrated segments with value-based pricing and service offerings were key in Bintel’s decision to deploy Redknee’s solutions,” said Alawi Baroum, CEO, Bintel.
“Redknee’s reputation for helping wireless operators drive revenue and profitability, especially in high growth markets, made Redknee the ideal partner for Bintel as we bring our services to Gabon.”
Bintel, which also runs networks in Central African Republic and Somaliland, is planning to launch in Gabon in the third-quarter of 2009, after it acquired a mobile license for the country in February.
Bintel is headquartered in Bahrain, and also has offices in Dubai and Lebanon.
