Media Solutions takes green initiative to address growing amount of e-waste in the country

Media Solutions is taking the green initiative by reusing and recycling parts from discarded computers in the region.

“Indeed, we should be concerned about the discarding of various components of hardware, including PCs. Many parts are known to be highly toxic and disturbing to the environment… there is a lot of e-wastage in the country,” said Altaf Alimohamed, managing director of Media Solutions which is based in Dubai Media City.

The company collects and dismantles old computers to obtain useable parts, which are then fitted into the most useable computers.

“The inventory list consists of a combination of parts, and software licenses to ensure that the re-cycled computers are up and running with minimum costs on new hardware and software items,” Alimohamed clarified.

As the recession forces companies to control expenses more strictly, many are looking for practical cost-effective options and Media Solutions is addressing that need.

“Memory upgrades range from AED 200 to AED 500 depending on the type of configuration in the computer. The cost of transferring parts from one PC to the other is free including our time, providing the customer has purchased an annual maintenance contract from us,” explained Alimohamed.

Based on this example, businesses can choose to pay AED 200 for reused parts or nearly AED 3,500 for a new PC with valid software licenses.

“Altaf’s team have successfully given new life to our kit by recycling parts among PC’s. It took Media Solutions less than a week, was cost-effective, and we now feel e-enabled after at least four years of crying e-disability!” said Susan Furness, CEO of PR firm Strategic Solutions, one of the first few companies to opt for Media Solutions’ green IT solutions.
