Etisalat makes AED 5 million green investment
Becomes exclusive sponsors of UAE EnviroFone mobile phone and e-waste recycling drive
Etisalat has pledged AED 5 million to the UAE national mobile phone and e-waste recycling campaign - EnviroFone.
At a press conference to announce its exclusive sponsorship of the campaign, Ahmed bin Ali, VP of Corporate Communications at Etisalat said that EnviroFone has so far "recovered 200,000 phones and over 52 tons of waste".
UAE residents are encouraged to drop off old mobile phones, batteries and other electronic devices to Etisalat outlets and other specific locations, where they will be sorted and transported out of the country for processing. For more information on drop-off points, visit the EnviroFone website.
Taking the green initiative further, Etisalat is now working to introduce eco-friendly building regulations through its subsidiary UT Technology.
"In Etisalat we are deploying NGN fibre to every home in the UAE. In doing so, we offer greater access to broadband services. This also allows us to provide additional services to our customers including (video conferencing, TV broadcast, VOIP, etc)," said Eng. Saleem Al Marzouqi, CEO of UT Technology. "Replacing old networks will reduce their negative impact and space needed for infrastructure.
“We are also going to build smart buildings that help in providing energy through by a central command centre responsible for monitoring electricity, water and gas usage," added Marzouqi. "Today we are using smart buildings technology in Abu Dhabi, starting from The Reem Island, the first Smart City in the UAE…”
“Smart home applications save around 30% of electricity and 50% in terms of space requirements for technical infrastructure," he concluded.
