Interest in Windows 7 beta crashes Microsoft site

Microsoft's website crashed last week due to the deluge of people trying to download the new beta OS

Microsoft's website reportedly crashed last week due to the deluge of people trying to download the new Windows 7 beta that was released recently.

Interest swelled when CEO Steve Ballmer announced in his CES keynote speech that a beta version of the new operating system would be made available through the official website.

People quickly logged on to experience the latest the company had to offer, eager to compare it to previous operating systems such as Vista and XP.

The strain was believed to have not only taken down the Windows 7 beta page, but the entire Microsoft.com website as well. The problem was quickly resolved though and the site is now operational again.
