Display technology key to NEC's future

Increased emphasis on the region leads to revenues that have almost doubled.

NEC Display Solutions (DS) is marking a year of growth in the MEA during GITEX Technology Week.

The Japanese electronics firm has given increased importance to the region and since GITEX 2007, NEC DS regional sales revenues have almost doubled. This has been attributed to its expanded product range in the region and a raft of channel development activity.

"For the last few years NEC's regional business has been performing well within its self prescribed limits. The impetus to address this issue came when the company took the decision to re-structure its display technology business units to create a unified NEC Display Solutions company," says Ian Gobey, general manager NEC DS Middle East.

"It was a logical step that paid off for the company, our channel partners and our end users. In 2008 we have seen what a dramatic difference this has made and we expect more of the same in 2009," he adds.

NEC DS covers the full spectrum of display technology. NEC says it is one of only three companies worldwide that supply digital cinema products. Between these two extremes are speciality medical imaging and graphic displays and the rapidly growing segment of commercial LCD for digital signage.

One of the fastest growing segments for NEC in the region is the education sector where the company has built an impressive reputation as a supplier of quality projectors for classroom and auditorium applications.
