Talia looks for African growth

Large capacity transponder recently leased from Arabsat

Internet and voice services provider Talia has plenty to shout about at this year's GULFCOMMS, not least the ongoing development of its business in sub-Saharan Africa.

The company, which has rapidly expanded coverage on a number of satellites as it endeavours to augment the services it already provides in the Middle East and North Africa, believes the show presents an ideal opportunity to update visitors on its offering, especially in Africa.

Having grown from 2.8 to 70MHz of occupied space segment in just over three years, Talia believes the African market has all the potential to match the Middle East for size.

"We are entering the African markets right now and have a large capacity transponder, leased with Arabsat, which was recently launched and targets Africa," explains Alan Afrasiab, CEO at Talia Group. "We will be promoting that service at GULFCOMMS."

Talia will also highlight its new iDirect platform during GULFCOMMS and hopes to walk away from the show with a long list of new contacts to its name. Afrasiab says that meeting with prospective partners and reinforcing its brand in the market are two of the company's chief objectives.

"Our business model does not involve selling to the end user; we have a reseller and partner network based around the Middle East and Africa, and we do business through them," explains Afrasiab. "Many of them come to GULFCOMMS so it is a good opportunity to meet with them face to face and increase brand awareness."
