Local stock boost for Lexmark dealers in Lebanon
Lexmark dealers in Lebanon can expect to take receipt of products within a day of placing an order
Lexmark dealers in Lebanon can expect to take receipt of products within a day of placing an order following a move by distribution partner Medmark to establish an in-country stocking facility.
Medmark, which also has offices in Bahrain and the UAE, insists its investment in a hub to serve the entire Levant region will slash the time it takes to fulfil orders, as customers will not need to wait for the product to arrive from Jebel Ali.
“From Dubai it typically takes seven to 10 days, but we will now be able to get that down to one day, maximum two, as we are situated in the heart of Beirut and Lebanon is a small country,” explained George Saliba, sales manager at Medmark. “Our customers can also order any volume of products and we will deliver it to them — they are not obliged to take a full container.”
Saliba admits the company has lost out on business in the Levant as a result of customers avoiding orders that would be too costly to ship. However, Medmark has US$300,000 worth of Lexmark printers, supplies and spare parts at the new facility, alleviating any concerns that resellers have over order value.
“Usually the customer would place all orders with the Dubai office and wait until they had one full truck or container to take it to Jordan or Lebanon to save on transportation,” said Saliba. “Most of the time if they didn’t have a big order they would ignore the business because they couldn’t ship four or five printers, but now we can deliver that amount for them. This should allow us to win the day-to-day small business and increase our revenue.”
Medmark has five employees in Lebanon, including an engineer to provide on-site repairs and maintenance. The company initially plans to serve eight major dealers in Lebanon and Jordan, each of which has their own sales channel.
With a Lebanese outpost now secured, Medmark is keen to expand its presence elsewhere in the region. Negotiations are currently underway with potential local partners to establish an operation in Saudi Arabia next.
