Oman government signs $5.5m e-tendering deal

Imtac and C1 awarded contract to develop e-tendering system for Oman Government Tender Board

The Government of Oman’s Tender Board has awarded an e-tendering contract to a consortium of Imtac and Indian e-procurement solution specialist C1.

The OMR 2.1m ($5.5m) project will develop an online tendering service, which is intended to enable all Omani government departments to carry out all aspects of the tender process online.

The project will automate all aspects of the tendering process, including registration, documentation and fees, and will be integrated with other government systems to eliminate manual processes and paperwork.

The first phase of the project, which is expected to take nine months, will see the automation of tendering processes for the Tender Board and five other government entities.

In the second phase of the project, a further 50 government organizations will be added to the system.

The system will be hosted on the Tender Board’s own website, and will be open to local and international companies.

HE Dr Khamis Bin Mubarak Al Alawi, Minister of Transport & Communications and Chairman of Tender Board said: “The project will add to the periodic enhancements of the Tendering processes and it utilizes IT to ensure enhanced efficiency in implementing Government projects.”

The scope of the project was developed in co-operation with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman.

“I am confident that e-procurement would bring in significant benefits by way of cost and time savings to Tender Board and ministries. This automated, easy to use and internet based portal will also encourage the local up-coming entrepreneurs to participate with equal opportunities to bid for government contracts,” said Fareed Al Hinai, vice chairman of Imtac.
