AME Info to stop web mail service

News portal AME Info to cease free web mail service from September

Middle East business news portal AME Info is to discontinue its web mail service, to focus more on its core objectives

The company, which is owned by UK media conglomerate EMAP, contacted users at the start of this month, to inform them that the service will be taken down as of 1st September.

In a statement to itp.net, Ziad Khammar, general manager said that the company felt that web mail was outside of its core activity of news delivery.

"The reason for discontinuing the web mail service is because we want to focus our efforts on delivering business news and information to our readers, and we feel that the web mail service doesn't fit with this core objective," Khammar said.

AME Info, which claims 1.1 million unique readers each month, declined to reveal how many users it had for the service. Users of the web mail service were advised by email to move messages from their AME accounts to alternative email providers, and to notify contacts that their email address would not work after August.
