Raffles implements advanced guest management system

The solution, which was put in place by system integrators Alpha Data, allows guests to control various elements in their rooms including lights, temperature and window drapes.

Raffles Dubai, one of the premier hotels in the UAE, has announced the successful implementation and continued use of an advanced guest management system (GMS). According to Anil KJ, senior consultant for hospitality at Alpha Data, the system allows guests to control elements within the room including lights, temperature and window drapes.

"One of the key requirements was for fully integrated room management and guest access systems. As this had not been done before in the UAE, we worked closely with our manufacturing partners to develop the panels, integrate them and install the systems throughout the hotel," said Anil KJ.

"Every room acts as an individually controlled element. However, they are all wired back to a central console as well. The concerned administrator can look into any particular room and know what temperature it is operating at and whether the lights are on," says Anil KJ.

According to him, the GMS is a much more sophisticated system than a conventional building management system (BMS). He states that while BMS is generally linked to control, the GMS provides both monitoring and control options. It also allows administrators to get a long-term view of things like energy usage and energy saved across the hotel.

"It is an advanced, detailed and comprehensive solution," stated Anil.

"Alpha Data is one of the only ICT companies in the country which was able to work with us as a systems integration manager to seamlessly link our telephony networks, networking systems, interactive television, building management systems and room managements systems. We needed that level of experience and skill set to ensure that Raffles Dubai sets a new standard in the local hospitality sector," said Ravi Veerasawmy of Raffles Dubai.

Alpha Data, which implemented the GMS system for Raffles, was also involved in the hotel's structured cabling, the TV systems for the rooms and the related telephony equipment. The company, which works with many organisations in the hospitality sector, recently completed a similar implementation for The Monarch Hotel in Dubai.
