Commercialbank rolls out Postilion for merchant point-of-sale
Postilion point-of-sale to help Commercialbank to offer flexible merchant services
Merchant-acquirer Commercialbank has chosen Postilion to deliver integrated point-of-sale (POS) payment services to its merchant customers.
According to Postilion, software provider for self-service banking and payments, the implementation will make the bank the first organisation in Qatar to offer flexible integrated POS payment services to merchants.
"The payment software is integrated with the retailing application with both sitting inside the retailers electronic POS system. Within the retail store, there is now a single device that rings up the sales and takes card payments rather than the previous two separate devices that were not connected," Steve Kirrage, SVP and general manager of Postilion Middle East, explained.
In addition, the POS system allows settings to be configured centrally, which is valuable for large merchant customers, according to Kirrage.
"A large retailer will be operating many stores and a large estate of POS terminals. Each server and till on this retail estate will require the configuration of merchant parameters and various settings for the payment processing application. With the Postilion solution all parameters and configuration settings can be set up in one central place. These can then be electronically distributed in a controlled manner. This feature saves money, reduces administration, ensures the correct settings are used and brings security controls," he said.
Recent merchant-based data breaches in the US and the UK have heightened awareness of the need for security in these systems, to ensure that customers' credit card details are safe.
"The number of attacks on merchants continues to increase as the value of credit card information becomes fully understood. Globally, this is becoming a regular occurrence and businesses in the Middle East need to be prepared so that they are not attacked and don't risk damage to their brand reputation," Kirrage advised.
"The payment solution provided by Postilion incorporates a number of security mechanisms such as encryption and authentication. These ensure no one can copy credit card numbers and make fraudulent transactions. Authentication restricts access only to the rightful users and prevents rogue applications being installed. The solution has been security validated by Visa," he added.
Commercialbank is one of the largest merchant-acquirers in Qatar - an organisation that is in the business of processing credit card transactions for businesses.
